The Beautiful View
Belvedere (bel·ve·de·re) — from Italian: "beautiful view." A structure designed to command a striking vista.
When the Williamsons rebuilt this estate after the 1912 fire, they chose the name "Belvedere" with intention. Nestled on elevated grounds near the shores of Lake Michigan and the sweeping sand dunes, this tranquil estate has provided an idyllic escape for over a century—offering both seclusion and proximity to West Michigan's most beloved coastal beauty.
Today, that same breathtaking view serves as nature's perfect backdrop for your ceremony, your photos, and your celebration. The vista that inspired the property's name continues to inspire love stories.

Our Journey Through Time
1897
The Comstock Estate
The Comstock family of Chicago built an elegant wood frame house with stucco exterior as their summer residence and functioning fruit farm. The estate grew 29 varieties of apples, 12 of pears, peaches, plums, grapes, and numerous berries, with its own private Interurban train stop.
1912
Fire & Rebirth
Just six weeks after the Williamsons purchased the estate for $100,000, lightning struck the original mansion. They rebuilt on the same site with a "fireproof" Prairie style design featuring 12" masonry walls, quarter-sawn oak trim, a green tile roof, and named it "Belvedere"—Italian for "beautiful view."
1920
A Wedding Gift
Earl Leonard acquired Belvedere in a Chicago real estate transaction and presented it as a wedding gift to his bride, Sue. She later recalled: "The Big House was magnificent, beautiful, it took my breath away."
1995
Comprehensive Restoration
John Lottie undertook extensive restoration work, reinstalling discovered original appointments such as French doors and historic light fixtures. The property was lovingly converted into a beautiful Bed and Breakfast Inn.
2026
Premier Wedding Destination
The Belvedere opens exclusively as a premier wedding venue, honoring over a century of history while creating space for countless new love stories on this storied estate.
Prairie Style Architecture

Every detail of Belvedere Estate reflects the artistry of Prairie style architecture, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and popularized in early 20th-century Chicago. Built with natural materials—12" thick masonry walls, quarter-sawn oak trim, a distinctive green tile roof, and copper exterior fixtures—the estate embodies the strong horizontal lines and craftsmanship characteristic of the Prairie movement.
We've balanced preservation with modern comfort. Climate control systems are hidden within historic architecture. The result is a venue that feels timeless yet functions flawlessly for contemporary celebrations.
